Colgate Palmolive - Keep Britain Smiling

William Colgate's business grew and once established as a leading soap manufacturer, Colgate and Company decided to branch out into Dental Cream in 1873 – originally sold in jars!
Colgate is always at the forefront of innovation and in 1896 repackaged the dental cream into flexible tubes, very similar to what we sell today.
Meanwhile in 1864 a gentleman called BJ Johnston opened a small laundry and tar soap factory in Milwaukee, joined by his son in 1898 they created a green soap based on palm olive and oils - called Palmolive!
With Colgate being strong in the Central, Southern and Western states and Palmolive being strong in the East the two companies merged in 1928, and from 1953 the Company is officially named Colgate-Palmolive.
Entering the UK in 1922, first as Palmolive, and then the newly merged Colgate-Palmolive Company.
